Statement of Purpose for the People
Minneapolis residents,
I am running for mayor not because I believe in controlling the election with thousands of dollars, but because I believe in the power of the people – the workers, families, and communities that make this city what it is. I want this campaign to be about you – the people who work, live, and visit Minneapolis. Together, we can build a city that works for everyone.
I know times are tough financially for many of us. Rising costs, job insecurities, and economic pressures are affecting our daily lives. That’s why I’m running: because I truly understand these struggles. I am committed to serving all of Minneapolis, especially the working-class families that often feel overlooked. My vision is to create a city where every voice is heard, and where we put the power back in the hands of the people.
This campaign will not be powered by money – it will be powered by the people. I’m asking for your support in a way that truly reflects our shared values. I believe in people power, not money power. I am asking for a simple, but significant contribution from you:
-
$5 a month in financial support, and 5 hours of volunteer time each month, from January 2025 to November 2025.
I know that not everyone can contribute financially, and that’s okay. If you can’t spare the $5, I ask you to consider donating 10 hours of volunteer time each month instead. Volunteer your time from home by helping with outreach – sending emails, calling community members, or connecting me with local events. Every hour counts, and together, we can spread the word to the people who need to hear it most.
For those of you who are able to contribute financially, your donations are welcome and appreciated. If you can spare a bit more, every extra contribution helps fuel this people-powered campaign and brings us one step closer to a Minneapolis where everyone has a voice.
I understand that this will be a challenging road ahead, but I believe in Minneapolis. I believe in us. I believe that with your support – through your voices, your time, and your vote – we can bring real, lasting change to our city. The people are the swing vote that will put us in office. Together, we will make Minneapolis a place where everyone’s voice matters.
Your time, your support, and your vote are the keys to a brighter future for Minneapolis. Let’s make this happen.

Brenda Short Calls for Ebony and Elderly Alerts to Protect Minneapolis' Most Vulnerable Residents
As a mother and a dedicated advocate for the safety of all our residents, I am deeply concerned about the well-being of our most vulnerable neighbors. That’s why I am calling for the immediate implementation of Ebony Alerts and Elderly Alerts in Minneapolis to protect our children, especially those of color and those with autism, as well as our elderly residents at risk of wandering. In 2024, the tragic loss of four children of color, two of whom had autism, highlighted the urgency of creating a faster, more responsive alert system. These children were unable to communicate or navigate the world like others, making them especially vulnerable. The delayed response to these cases resulted in devastating outcomes. No family should have to endure such pain and fear when a loved one goes missing.

An Ebony Alert will ensure that children of color are given the immediate attention they deserve when they go missing, providing a swift and coordinated response.
An Elderly Alert will help safeguard elderly residents, particularly those with dementia, who are at risk of wandering away from their homes.
It’s time to act. We must have the tools in place to protect our most vulnerable residents—our children and elderly family members. As mayor, I will work tirelessly to implement these critical alerts to keep Minneapolis safe for everyone.
